At time of market creation, a law has passed the legislature, awaiting action from the governor to legalize human composting. View current status here.
Resolves YES if there is an active human composting operation in Delaware by the end of 2025.
Resolves NO if the governor takes no action, vetos, or if no businesses set up shop to accept and compost human remains by the end of 2025.
Legislation is also close to passage in Maryland.
According to NPR:
Seven states have legalized human composting: Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Vermont, and New York….
And it took California lawmakers three tries to pass a law to do the same, but it won't take effect until 2027.
Update 2025-07-08 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): The creator has deleted a previous AI-generated summary and provided the following clarifications:
An operation does not necessarily need to be physically located within Delaware to count for a YES resolution.
Out-of-state companies that merely advertise in Delaware, without offering services specifically enabled by the new Delaware laws, will not be sufficient for a YES resolution.
The creator is inclined to resolve YES based on evidence of operations taking advantage of the Delaware-specific laws.
@traders i could use your input.
I just deleted the AI summary of my July 4 statements, as it was a hallucination. I never said these operations must be physically located in Delaware, though my comment from a year ago may imply or suggest it, and the AI definitely said it. I have not edited or deleted anything else.
When I created this market, I said they must operate in Delaware. There were, at the time, and still are, companies out of Washington that advertise in Delaware. These can’t count towards resolution. They predate the market, and if you read the fine print, they aren’t offering anything special or specific to Delaware. Apologies if it confused anyone that this wasn’t more clear.
What should count for resolving this market? I haven’t seen any evidence so far of people taking advantage of the Delaware specific laws, but I’m inclined to think I should consider it if I do.
Though it’s possible the market is priced quite fairly based on @strutheo’s recent research (thanks struth) and nothing is going to change.
@strutheo lol yea I do recall this advice…
You know I have this exact same market for Maryland right?
It’s now fully legal, now just waiting for someone to set up shop in Delaware.
It’s tricky and confusing, a lot of these operators are advertising in Delaware but operating in Washington where things are more established.
