Three things raise the possibility. 1) The competitors may need to pool resources to survive. 2) It’s happened in the comics. 3) Both have recent movies that get oddly specific about inevitability in timelines (Dr.Strange 2, Spiderverse, and quite dishonorably, the Flash).

On the contrary, they may run out of money before that happens (but not Sony). And if they don’t learn from their mistakes, such an announcement may invite backlash that would harm their stock prices. So if they’ve been paying attention, they may prefer to keep quiet.
