King Charles III ascended to the throne in 2022 after a spending a remarkable 64 years as the Prince of Wales (the title given to the heir to the throne).

His mother reigned for 70 years, but the King's age (he's currently 75) makes a comparable reign vanishingly unlikely.

There are a few ways that Charles III could stop being the King:

  • He could die. This is the traditional way that a Monarch ends their reign.

  • He could abdicate due to age. This would go against royal tradition, but other European royals have done this in the recent past and there has been speculation that the King could be open to this if he has a relatively long reign and he doesn't want every King who follows him to already have passed retirement age

  • He could abdicate for political reasons or be forced to abdicate. His great uncle abdicated due to his Nazi sympathies and his desire to marry a divorced Catholic. It's possible that some scandal or disagreement with a future government could force Charles III to do the same

  • The Monarchy could be abolished.

In which year will King Charles cease to be the King of the United Kingdom?

  • If the UK breaks up or changes in a way which means that the King is only the King of some parts of the UK, he will be considered to still be the King if he is the King of more than half of what was the UK by population. Eg. If Scotland and Wales abolish the monarchy but he is still the King of England, he will still be the King for the purposes of this market.

Note: in "other" and I add more years after 2030, you will automatically receive the same number of shares in each of those new years. You can trade/sell them or you can just hold onto them and be in the same position as if the additional years hadn't split out and the market simply resolved to "after 2030".
