Why is Adams still so high? He’s not doing well in polls

@Ibozz91 Polls this far out are not worth much. I expect the full weight of "the establishment" to crash down on Zohran around October.

I know polymarket has him at 25% but i don't understand how Adam's can win. Cuomo seems to have a much better chance. He just needs enough Republicans to vote for him. I don't see Republicans ranking either Zohran or Adam's.

@Kfredric this election isnt ranked choice, fwiw

@Ziddletwix yes. I knew this but apparently not when writing this comment. Would make it even harder for Adam's since he is currently polling behind both Silwa and Cuomo.

"The likely voters were asked to pick a candidate from a list with the following options: Mamdani, Cuomo, Adams, Guardian Angels founder and Republican Curtis Sliwa, independent Jim Walden, another candidate or not sure. The survey has a margin of error of 4 percent and polled 568 people.

Mamdani garnered the largest percentage of likely voters from 18 to 44 years old, with 49.7 percent. Cuomo's largest percentage came from the Bronx borough with 44.4 percent, while Adams saw his largest backing from Independents and Republicans with 23.8 percent alike.

Cuomo received the highest percentage among the likely New Your City voters when asked who would do the best job running the city, with 33.5 percent compared to Mamdani's 32.5 percent. Adams received 12.4 percent."

@cash Giant limit order up at NO 8% (better than Polymarket line!)

It's really important to remember that the reason Adams is so unpopular isn't just because of his baffling scandals with Turkey or because he's a bad mayor or anything like that -- It's because he agreed to comply with the Trump admin's orders to get his case dropped. Any anti-trump sentiment in NYC is anti-Adams sentiment too! Any anti-Trump attack has an anti-Adams attack built in!

@Marnix people probably virtue signal in primaries. They’ll do it less in the general when they actually need to discuss good government—low crime, quality of life.

@CraigTalbert See, but challengers win against incumbents on a QoL argument - especially Mamdani, whose entire campaign has centered on QoL issues. Adams might be the "tough on crime" candidate, but I think he's shockingly weak on a crime argument, considering his corruption scandals - and even then, I don't think that crime's gonna be the big question in this race. I think we're looking at something far closer to a 2017-style "holding our government to account" question. Adams is in a big pit from being bailed out of his corruption trials by Trump, and I don't think all the money in the world can necessarily help him out of that hole.

Also, for reference, Mamdani got more votes in just the first round of voting than Eric Adams got in the primaries in 2021.

@Marnix white collar crime and blue collar crime are very different politically. Everyone hates blue collar crime, for white collar crime outrage happens more on a case by case basis.

Mamdani is a savvy politician, but so far it feels like a Vibes/BRAT Kamala style thing—he’s promising a lot (buses, child care, grocery stores), but practically will still have to pay for it and survive interviews where he’s asked about how he will implement all of this. What will the implications be of taxing out people and corporations who could move?

I think even in NYC in 2025, people would like to have a Koch, Dinkins, 1994 Gulianni or a Bloomberg over a Mamdani.

Now, granted I’ve never lived in NYC and all of this comes from watching all seven seasons of Rescue Me, watching Conan religiously in high school (when so should have been sleeping) and eating several slices of fold-able pizza (though they were nearly all baked on Colorado)… and before I knew better I listened to Off The Hook on WBAI, and some adjacent shows. Oh and Howard Stern. So much Howard Stern. And I was a big fan of Type-O and the Beastie Boys.

… and a begrudging respect for Sex and the City.

Rescue Me, if you haven’t seen it, was beautiful because if you were gay or straight it was still basically softcore porn. It was also set in NYC.

I would bet bigger here, but it’s possible in this ménage à trois that Adams and Cuomo fuck each other rather than spitroasting Mamdani, but I think they work that out.

At the end of the day, I think NYC is still more Recuse Me than Mamdani and you will see as much in the general.

Cuomo won't run. Establishment dems will support Adams, who will get all the votes from the right and from center left.

@BBQDAD I'm not so sure. It's looking like the establishment dems have kind of given up, and are lining up behind Mamdani. I don't think a 2021 Buffalo mayoral election scenario is really feasible here - Adams is extremely unpopular, Mamdani is really good at messaging, Silwa is going to be splitting the "i hate commies" vote, and if they add anyone else it'll just split the vote even harder.

This is the first I have ever heard of this Zohran Mamdani, is he truly a communist (based) or is Trump merely exaggerating and he's just a slightly socially progressive neoliberal (nothingburger)?

@TheAllMemeingEye The democrats crossed a line by electing somebody? Christ

@TheAllMemeingEye he's a member of the DSA

Jim Walden?

@Marnix Ackman denied this report. Apparently he is looking into legal issues regarding someone else entering the race. https://x.com/billackman/status/1937975305643114806?s=46&t=EH8RY6pqThhG7HnB5qPjIA

@ChadCotty i was gonna say, it'd be really weird if his "big plan" that he "has to look into" was just a guy who was already running

There really are a lot of hilarious options for famous New Yorkers he could pick. Hillary, Bloomberg, Jay-Z, etc. Besides, all Ackman really needs is someone who can divide Zohran's supporters enough for another candidate to win.
