Can Lady Gaga & Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Go Nuts At The Box Office? $140M Global Start Eyed – Preview $140M would be a nice chunk of the $400M needed. It would need an under 3x multiplier
‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Bows To $121M Global; Overseas Taps Expected Range, But Auds Clearly Not Gaga Over Sequel – International Box Office It’ll only need a 3.3x multiplier to not be a flop! Can Joker 2 do it?

In Hollywood, the math goes that a movie needs to make twice its budget to not be considered a flop (Hollywood math is wild, but this is to cover marketing, distribution and other “final mile” costs).

The reported budget for Joker 2 is $190-200million (per Wikipedia). Accordingly, it’d have to make at least $400M worldwide to be considered profitable.

Will Joker: Folie à Deux make less than $400M in its initial theatrical run? Is Lady Gaga’s turn as Harley Quinn going to be a flop?

Note: If there is an updated budget for the film (higher or lower), this market will continue with double the upper bound of that new range.

Wait. It’s a musical? Are you kidding me?

@10thOfficial hollywood loves making musicals and refusing to tell audiences with any of the promotional materials.

yep, tons of songs sung, mainly 50s-60s musicals. it takes a second before the singing kicks in (sorta), but for the meat of the movie there’s a lot of sung parts.

That will make me change my tune on a lot of the markets I was trading on. Wow.

What were they thinking, they had the formula for success right there from the first one. This is still blowing my mind.

What an absolute disaster. Mind boggling.
